According to a story in the Salisbury Journal, a woman who miraculously survived a severe road traffic accident has launched a legal bid to claim more than half a million pounds in compensation from the driver of the other vehicle.
Diana Turan, of Salisbury, was forced to make an emergency stop after her car started revving excessively on September 14, 2008, while driving down the A303 dual carriageway near Bullington Cross. Seeing smoke and fearing that the engine may catch fire, Miss Turan and her partner, Gyorgy Nadasi, were forced to quickly evacuate the car. On exiting the vehicle, Miss Turan was hit by another car, causing severe brain injury and breaking both her legs. Following the accident, Miss Turan spent three months in hospital and underwent extensive rehabilitation. Despite this, she continues to suffer from double vision and is weak on one side of her body. Cognitive difficulties arising from the brain injury have also left her unable to manage her own affairs.
Miss Turan’s legal representatives claim that the driver of the other car, Carol Ward of Andover, drove in a negligent fashion. They allege Ms Ward failed to pay attention to the brake lights on Miss Turan’s vehicle and consequently failed to notice that she was making an emergency stop. They also allege that Ms Ward was driving too fast and too close. They further allege that during the accident, Ms Ward failed to reduce her speed or move fully into the other lane of the dual carriageway, leaving a gap of only 28cm between the two vehicles.
