Compensation Claim

Car insurance costs on the increase

Leading insurance provider the AA has claimed that many drivers are now facing annual insurance premiums of more than one thousand pounds as a result of the increasing number of accident claims being lodged.

In the final quarter of 2009, the AA reported a rise of more than seven percent on the average cost of car insurance policies – a record increase over a three month period. This has led to some drivers having to fork out more than a thousand pounds during the course of a year in order to cover their car insurance costs.

The result was even higher on price comparison websites, whose average results turned in a rise of almost thirteen percent on comprehensive insurance cover and third party, fire and theft premiums. Overall, some motorists have experienced a policy cost rise of as much as thirty percent per annum in order to keep their vehicle on the road.

The AA contributed rising policy costs to an increase in accident claims made by motorists. Part of the cause was down to extreme weather conditions, as snowy and icy weather led to a greater number of accidents, whilst drivers are also suffering crashes due to the poor condition of roads and the rising number of potholes.

Motorists that have suffered accidents through a third party – whether it be another driver or a poorly surfaced road – should not be deterred from making a claim however, as they are entitled to personal injury compensation if they suffer wounds or medical conditions as a result of their crash.
