Accident at work leaves man claiming compensation for lost arm

man-loses-armA man from the north-east lost his arm in a tragic accident at work and has since filed a claim for compensation against Aberdeenshire Council for the accident at work. The accident left Steven Gallon in agony as his arm, shoulder and even part of his collarbone was ripped off in an accident. Mr Gallon is seeking £2 million in compensation for injury, his loss of earnings and future pain and suffering.

The accident happened at Inverboyndie Waste Treatment Plant in 2004, and has, according to Mr Gallon’s father, caused his son (more…)

Midlothian Council pays out £40k for accidents at work in schools

teacher-with-injuryIt has been revealed that Midlothian Council has paid out over £40,000 in personal injury compensation in the last five years for accidents at work suffered by teachers in schools. The slip and trip accidents include teachers who have fallen over and had things land on them. The biggest claim was for more than £17,000 in compensation for deafness.

Six more teaching staff have injury claims outstanding against Midlothian Council for injuries involving a circular saw, slipping on ice and even a chemical explosion.

Eye surgery lacks regulation warns the APIL

apilThe APIL (Association of Personal Injury Lawyers) has warned that there is no adequate regulation surrounding the field of laser eye surgery, which means patients could end up being treated by doctors who have not been properly trained for the tasks they are performing.

Father told he cannot claim compensation for son’s murder

john johnson sunderlandThe father of a man who was murdered outside his own home in Sunderland has been told that he cannot claim compensation for his son’s death on the grounds that his son fought back against his attackers.

Twenty-two-year-old Kevin Johnson was stabbed to death by youths outside his home in 2007 when he confronted the mob for making a noise that kept his baby awake.

His father, John Johnson, has stated how he has tried, on two occasions, to claim compensation for his son’s death, but on both occasions he was denied by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA). He is now (more…)

West Ham seek compensation for injury to Carlton Cole

carlton coleWest Ham United football club has claimed for injury compensation after their player, Carlton Cole, was injured playing for England. Cole featured in England’s 4-0 friendly victory over Slovakia, but left the field with an injury after playing for just 20 minutes.

Cole received a groin injury in the game, and will be missing for West Ham for six weeks. His absence will be felt by the London outfit as Cole has been in great form this season, scoring 11 goals.

Woman to claim for compensation for medical negligence

stroke-victimA woman who suffered a stroke five years ago has been told by a judge that she is able to proceed with a claim for compensation for medical negligence. The court ruled that her stroke could have been prevented if she had been referred to hospital by her GP early enough.

The woman, thirty-year-old Samantha Cole, is unable to walk normally after she suffered the stroke in 2004. According to her injury lawyers, she complained of symptoms such as headaches, sickness and dizziness weeks before she experienced the stroke. Despite contacting her GP and visiting the A&E department of her hospital, she was turned away without any treatment.

When she was too ill to visit her GP, Dr Joseph Huber, she asked him for a home visit, but she was still not referred to hospital. It was just four days after this that Samantha Cole suffered a (more…)

Man wins compensation for spinal injury

marleybone-stationA man has won his six year battle to receive compensation for a spinal injury he suffered as a result of a slip and trip. The man, Brian Piccolo, was on his way home from work when he slipped on water and flower petals that had been left on the floor in Marylebone Station. The flowers and water had been left there by the owners of Chiltern Flowers’ stall.

When he fell, he severely damaged his spine which has left it difficult for him to walk more than a few yards and he fears that he could one day be consigned to a wheelchair. Mr Piccolo original sought £1.5 million for (more…)
