A fall from a ramp at work has left a 50 year old father with a fractured skull, spinal injuries and the possibility of never working again for the rest of his life.
The work accident occurred when Peter Snowling, of Mallows Field, Halstead was loading a lorry with a sack of peas. Mr. Snowling lost his balance and suffered a serious fall. As a result, he has received an accident at work compensation of £250,000 through on out-of-court settlement with his ex-employer, WA Church (Bures) Ltd.
The ex-employer has also been fined by the Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court to the total sum of £8,000, excluding the £4,642 in costs for failing to ensure the safety of their workers. According to Mr. Snowling, WA Church (Bures) Ltd has been actively looking for another role suitable for his current conditions, but a recent medical check-up has found Peter’s personal injury to be unfavourable for any position.
The accident occurred on November 17, 2008 and has left Peter Snowling with three crushed vertebrae and a bone that is now wedged against his spinal cord, hence making it surgically impossible to operate on him. As a result, the father-of-two now suffers from permanent impaired memory as well as the loss of physical strength.
For now, all Peter Snowling has to live on is the personal injury compensation award he has received along with whatever earnings his wife Sheila can make on a part-time basis. While his future seems uncertain and his daily life has been severely impaired, Peter remains optimistic and adds:
“I am sure there are a lot of people out there worse off than me.”
