Ricky Whittle may be getting ready for the final of Strictly Come Dancing this coming weekend, but he could find himself in hot water after an alleged incident with a commercial photographer in Liverpool recently.
The actor from Hollyoaks is facing a lawsuit after he allegedly ran over a commercial photographer after finishing a day’s filming on the Liverpool soap opera on Saturday evening. Ricky Whittle was arrested by police on the evening of Saturday November 28th after he left a bar in Liverpool, which was the site of an after show party for Hollyoaks cast and crew to celebrate the conclusion of a week’s filming.
Police questioned the actor after arresting him, but released him on bail the same night.
Upon leaving the bar, Whittle allegedly ran over commercial photographer Steve Farrell, who was taking pictures of Whittle, leaving the photographer sporting minor injuries. Steve Farrell is now speaking with personal injury lawyers in Liverpool over the incident and deciding whether he should pursue a claim for compensation against the Hollyoaks actor. If Farrell does make a claim for compensation, the severity of his injuries will be important to determine whether his injuries have impeded his potential to work and operate his camera.
This last Saturday Whittle showed no sign of the incident affecting him as he danced his way into this weekend’s final of Strictly Come Dancing, where he will go head to head with Chris Hollins.

Forty-nine-year-old Kerrie Gray has been told that he cannot claim for compensation for loss of earnings after being sent to prison for manslaughter. Mr Gray claims that he stabbed and killed John Boultwood in 2001 after suffering mental injuries when he was a survivor of the Paddington rail crash in 1999, where 31 passengers were killed.
Mr Gray says the emotional distress caused by the accident was the reason he stabbed and killed Mr Boultwood. He tried to claim £300,000 in damages, claiming loss of earnings as a result of being sent to prison for manslaughter. His personal injury lawyer argued that Thames Trains and Network Rail should pay him compensation for loss of earnings, even though he killed someone.
His lawyers claim that after the rail crash he underwent a severe change in personality.
Mr Gray stabbed Mr Boultwood when the victim was drunk in front of his car. After punching and kicking Mr Boultwood, Gray then went to a friend’s house to get a knife, before returning and stabbing him to death.
Lord Hoffmann ruled:
His claims for loss of earnings after his arrest, and for general damages for his detention, conviction and damage to reputation, are all claims for damage caused by the lawful sentence imposed on him for manslaughter.
