Religious orders implicated in the Ryan report into sexual and physical abuse against children have stated that they will make further compensation payments to the victims. There is a compensation fund in place for claims against the religious orders, and that stands at over 1.3 billion Euros.
The report showed that the religious orders had abused children for decades in Ireland in Roman Catholic run institutions. The orders have apologised for the actions and have stated they will cooperate with the Irish government.
The religious orders released a joint statement that read:
They would make financial and other contributions toward a broad range of measures designed to alleviate the hurt caused to people who were abused in their care.
Each congregation is fully committed to identifying its resources, both financial and other, within a transparent process with a view to delivering upon commitments made today.
