Fake road traffic accidents in Manchester

Sometimes a road traffic accident is not quite what it seems.  The Daily Mail has reported on an alleged criminal conspiracy in Manchester which may have arranged more than 93 ‘fake’ accidents.  If true, this has unfortunately transformed the lives of many innocent people.

The gang are meant to have operated by deliberately crashing into the back of vehicles.  The driver would then make a false whiplash claim.  This activity eventually attracted the attention of the authorities.  It would seem that if this was the case it would have taken a high degree of nerve on behalf of the driver.  To crash deliberately is a dangerous activity for the driver, as well as exposing the culprit to the various sanctions of the law.  The thought of inflicting damage, both physical and mental, on the victim (more…)

What should I do when I have a car accident?

Categories: Road Traffic Accident (RTA) | Tags: , , | Written by Michael on September 8, 2009

Having a car accident can be very traumatic and stressful. You’ve the sudden shock of crashing into someone, or having someone crash into you. You have the shock of seeing your car, which many people take great pride in, being damaged, sometimes destroyed and you have the pain of injury to contend with.

You also have emotions such as anger at the person who caused the accident. This can lead many people to forget what to do when they have a crash, but if you intend to make a claim for compensation you should follow these guidelines whenever you have a crash:

  • Take down the full details of the people involved, including name, address, insurance details, car registration and phone numbers.
  • If they give you a mobile number, test it there and then to see if it rings!
  • Take photographs of the accident from all angles with your phone.
  • Look for witnesses and get their details, even if the accident seems minor and there’s no visible damage to your car or injury to you. Damage could be discovered later and your injuries could come on after the incident.
  • If you are injured in any way, call the ambulance service. You don’t know the extent of your injuries and it will help your compensation claim.

Can I claim compensation for whiplash?

Categories: Road Traffic Accident (RTA) | Tags: , , , | Written by Michael on August 31, 2009

Whiplash is perhaps one of the most common of all injuries that result in claims for compensation. If you’ve had a car accident where you’ve been struck from behind you’re very likely to suffer from whiplash, which is a pain in your neck and shoulders caused by your head being thrown forward violently and unexpectedly.

Whiplash injuries almost always follow on from car accidents, and sometimes the effects of whiplash can be delayed for some days afterwards. If you have had a car accident you should always seek professional help from the doctor or hospital first. They can diagnose whether you have suffered any injuries, injuries that you could claim compensation for.

Once you have seen the doctor, make contact with a personal injury lawyer, preferably a no win, no fee personal injury lawyer. They’ll be able to take your details, information about your accident and explain what happens next.

If you are able to make a claim for compensation, they’ll help you with that and handle all of the difficult technical and legal aspects of the claim, leaving you free to recuperate from your injuries and look forward to your compensation cheque.

Can I claim for whiplash?

Categories: Road Traffic Accident (RTA) | Tags: , , | Written by Paul on August 13, 2009

Whiplash is one of the most common injuries caused by a car accident, even at low velocity. Car accidents can happen at any time, at any speed, and the most common accidents occur at low speeds at roundabouts, traffic lights and in car parks.

If someone has gone into the back of your car, either while you were waiting at traffic lights, slowing at a roundabout or manoeuvring in a car park, you may have suffered whiplash without even being aware of it.

Whiplash doesn’t necessarily come on straight away as the effects may not be apparent for some days, or even weeks. If you have had an accident such as this you should contact a personal injury lawyer straight away and give them the details. They will arrange for you to be checked out by a medical expert who will determine whether you have suffered injuries such as whiplash, and whether you need physiotherapy. The cost for this can be reclaimed from the person who crashed into you, so you won’t have to spend any money of your own.

Remember that even if you feel fine after an accident, you may have damage to your neck that isn’t at first obvious. See a specialist to be on the safe side, and claim the compensation for injury that you deserve.

Police officers suffer whiplash injuries at work

Two police offers suffered whiplash injuries when a car they were in pursuit of crashed into them. This prompted a judge to call for much tougher driving sentencing for dangerous drivers.

The pursuit happened in Bradford in the north of England this past week when the 4×4 vehicle being driven by Mr Jaspal Singh collided with both cars, causing whiplash injuries to the two police officers.

Singh had already been sentenced for dangerous driving in October 2007 and was on the run after failing to show up in court. He was spotted by police driving his 4×4 and fled the scene, with the police in pursuit.

He fled the police, driving the wrong way down the road and through a red light. The whiplash injuries occurred when he reversed his car into a following patrol car, and the car behind that.

Judge Scott said of the dangerous driving:

These were both very bad offences. They indicate yet again the necessity of the maximum sentence for dangerous driving being enlarged from two years to at least five years.

I point out for the benefit of the public the maximum sentence permitted for a plea of guilty in the first instance is 16 months in custody which is no way long enough.

Crash for cash compensation claims

Categories: Compensation Claim,Insurance Companies | Tags: , , , , , | Written by Hilary on June 1, 2009

The term ‘crash for cash’ applies to people who stage accidents for the purposes of claiming personal injury compensation and compensation for the repair to the vehicles. It’s a growing trend and is costing insurance companies millions every year. It’s also costing the average motorist around £40 on their insurance premiums each year.

According to the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) the number of fraudsters claiming compensation for ‘crash for cash’ claims is increasing.

A common way for these fraudsters to stage an accident is to slam their brakes on hard, often on a motorway, causing the driver behind to rear shunt them. There’s little you can do to avoid them and they’ll claim against your insurance for damages to their vehicle and personal injury, usually involving whiplash claims and compensation for time off work.

Often injury claims will be made for passengers who weren’t even in the car.

The IFB’s John Beadle stated:

The criminal gangs targeting honest motorists are ruthless.

Innocent lives are being put at risk and fraudulent insurance claims add approximately £40 to every premium paid by honest policy holders each year.

fiat-pandaA road traffic accident between a bus and a car has caused injury to women in Newcastle. The accident happened just after noon on Monday afternoon in Gosforth. The bus collided with a Fiat Panda, which had to have its door cut free by firemen so the female driver could be treated by paramedics.

The driver of the bus also needed to be treated for whiplash. Both women were taken to the hospital with their injuries, at Newcastle General.

It is unclear as yet where fault remains, but one of the drivers would most certainly be able to claim for injury following the accident.
