Stephen Loraine is 9 and needs a lifetime of care after he was deprived of oxygen in his mother’s womb. As reported in the Liverpool Echo, he has recently obtained a large amount of compensation from the hospital concerned.

It would appear that Arrowe Park hospital on the Wirral failed to pay proper attention to the medical records of Pauline Lorraine. She had a “fibroid” which should have set alarm bells ringing. Shortly after being sent home in the aftermath of the scan, she endured a lot of bleeding. Stephen’s delivery had to be performed quickly after Pauline had been rushed back to hospital.

Stephen has now got quadriplegic cerebral palsy, allegedly as a consequence of medical negligence. Stephen also cannot see very well. He therefore requires constant care. In 2008, the High Court decided that Pauline should not have been sent home in the aftermath of the scan. Pauline has had to give up her work to look after her son. She receives considerable assistance from her husband Mark.

Mark stated:

“This has been a long hard fight to secure Stephen’s long term care.”

The family has used the proceeds of an interim compensation payout to adapt their residence in accordance with Stephen’s requirements.

By winning their compensation claim they have managed to make part of the building suitable for Stephen’s wheelchair. His parents want to use the money from their compensation claim to ensure that their son develops to his maximum.
