West Ham United football club has claimed for injury compensation after their player, Carlton Cole, was injured playing for England. Cole featured in England’s 4-0 friendly victory over Slovakia, but left the field with an injury after playing for just 20 minutes.
Cole received a groin injury in the game, and will be missing for West Ham for six weeks. His absence will be felt by the London outfit as Cole has been in great form this season, scoring 11 goals.
When a player is injured playing for England the clubs tend to follow the procedure of claiming for injury compensation, which usually results in the insurance company for the English FA paying the wages of the player while he is injured.
The amount paid in injury compensation is likely to be around £200,000, but the real loss to West Ham will be if they fail to qualify for Europe as a result of Cole’s absence.
