st-giles-street-norwichA Norwich woman has a potential claim for whiplash as a result of a car accident when a motorist reversed into her car on a one-way street in Norwich. The accident occurred on St Giles Street in Norwich in March as the woman was driving down the street. A Latvian man reversed back down the street into the front of her car, causing her to suffer whiplash injuries and £600 worth of damage to her car.

The driver of the oncoming car was 20-year-old Edgars Seleckis, who crashed his Vauxhall Vectra into the front of the woman’s car. The woman suffered whiplash injuries in the accident.

Claire Spooner prosecuted for the injured woman and Edgars Seleckis was not represented.

Miss Spooner stated in court:

It happened on March 23 in the afternoon. This defendant was driving his friend’s car, which appeared to stop to drop somebody off in St Giles Street.

A woman driver was in the left-hand lane of the one-way street coming into St Giles Street. She saw a car reversing at her at speed. It hit the front of her vehicle and she sustained whiplash injuries. She was very upset. She has been driving 33 years and never had an accident before. The car was damaged and had a bent grill at the front and the bumper was smashed.

The defendant was interviewed by police and admitted he made a mistake. He said he thought he was insured to drive his friend’s car and did not know that the policy had been cancelled. The damage to her car was £600.

Seleckis received a £210 fine after pleading guilty to careless driving, and was also ordered to pay £200 compensation to the woman for the accident.
